The Truth About the PDB Memo

Again, this is beiong reposted due to the recent technical problems:

The Truth about the PDB Memo

Conspiracy theorists often cite the August 6th Presidential Daily Briefing Memo as proof that Bush had advance knowledge of the 9-11 attacks. However, they might want to try actually READING the PDB memo ( and I mean the entire thing, not just the portions that suit their agenda).

The title of the memo was “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the U.S,” as we see here However, this wasn’t much help as we know Bin Laden already struck the U.S. in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Furthermore, Bin Laden despises the U.S and had made numerous threats against the U.S. He also followed through on said threats as indicated by the first WTC bombing in 1993, the Khobar Towers attack in 1996, the embassy bombings in 1998, and the U.S.S. Cole bombing in 2000. If you have someone who hates your guts, has made threats against you and followed through on said threats, then it should be pretty obvious that they’re probably going to attack you again. Saying Bin Laden wanted to launch a major attack on the United States is like saying the sun will rise in the east- you know it’s going to happen. The fact is the information in the PDB memo was extremely vague and if Bush had acted on such vague information, it would have caused a panic.

Here’s an excerpt from the PDB memo, found here and here ” : “We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting, such as that from a … (edited)… service in 1998 saying that Bin Laden wanted to hijack a US aircraft to gain the release of “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel Rahman and other US-held extremists.

Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York.

The FBI is conducting approximately 70 full field investigations throughout the US that it considers Bin Laden-related.

The CIA and the FBI are investigating a call to our embassy in the United Arab Emirates in May saying that a group of Bin Laden supporters was in the US planning attacks with explosives.”

Now, in order to have prevented the 9-11 attacks, Bush would have needed to know the date and time of the attacks, the method of attack, and the target- in other words he needed the following questions answered: How, when, and where? As anyone who’s actually read the PDB Memo can see, said memo did not answer that question- it merely said Bin Laden was planning an attack on the U.S. In short, the PDB memo was nothing more than a status report, and, quite frankly, it was a rather half-assed one at that.
