More CD lies from Steven Jones

Here are some more real facts about the controlled demolition and thermite theory in a paper by Mike King entitled “Good Science and 911 Demolition Theories.” (Source)

Before some “truther” points out his day job is in the visual arts, I suggest you read the intro more carefully, particular where King points out he is trained in science.

The two main types of controlled demolition are toppling and implosion, and “truthers” insist WTC 1, 2, and 7 were brought down by controlled demolition, never mind the fact that the skilled controlled demolition technicians insist the 911 ‘Truth” Movement is wrong. (reference)

If you go about a quarter of the way down the page, you will see that Mike King provides this quote from Steven Jones: “”I maintain that these observations are consistent with the use of high-temperature cutter-charges such as thermite, HMX or RDX or some combination thereof, routinely used to melt/cut/demolish steel.”

However, thermite is NOT an explosive, it’s an INCENDIARY. Thermite burns slowly, won’t explode, and is never used in demolitions. In point of fact, thermite can only be used to melt horizontal pieces of steel, not vertical ones. In addition, thermite can only be used to melt steel if it has DIRECT contact with unprotected HORIZONTAL steel beams. Since the horizontal steel beams in the WTC were covered by about four inches of concrete, thermite would be pretty useless for controlled demolition purposes (source).

In addition, you need about 107 kilograms of thermite to obtain 54 kilograms of molten iron. The trouble is the molten metal flowing from the impact zone has been estimated to be in the range of THOUSANDS of kilograms. (source).  One need not do the math to see the obvious problem. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY to get that much thermite in there without anyone noticing.

This quote from here illustrates another problem: “the CD hypothesis agrees that the floor(s) of impact of the plane could not have been exactly predicted, so every, say, 5 floors, another couple of metric tonnes of thermite would be required. (Jones: ‘… to make it appear that the planes somehow initiated the collapse; cutter-charges could have been pre-placed at numerous spots in the building, since one would not know exactly where the planes would enter.’) Even if only the top half of the building were so prepared, then we would anticipate 2 metric tonnes x 11 locations or 22 tonnes. If the mass of stream of molten metal were estimated at more like 10,000 kg of iron then the figure goes up to 220 tonnes of thermite. We have to believe (a) that the conspirators were ignorant enough to attempt to use thermite, and (b) could insinuate between 22 and 220 tonnes of thermite, plus charges, plus radio firing systems, into each tower.”

As for HMX and RDX, which CAN be used in controlled demolition, as explosives, they FRACTURE the steel, not melt it. (reference).

Once again, we see that Steven Jones is guilty of some very sloppy research, and as a trained scientist, he should know better.
