More REAL Facts About Alleged Melted Steel

I have yet more evidence that the 911 “Truth” Movement claim of melted steel is, at the very least a straw man, if not an outright lie.

At e-Skeptic, the 911 “truth” movement insists that since jet fuel doesn’t burn hot enough to melt steel, the collapse must have been controlled demolition. This quote here from David Heller, provides the “truther” argument: “The official story maintains that fires weakened the buildings. Jet fuel supposedly burned so hot it began to melt the steel columns supporting the towers. But steel-framed skyscrapers have never collapsed from fire, since they’re built from steel that doesn’t melt below 2750° Fahrenheit. No fuel, not even jet fuel, which is really just refined kerosene, will burn hotter than 1500° Fahrenheit.”

As I pointed out in one of my first articles, while that last sentence is technically true, “truthers” forget two things.

The first thing they forget is that the steel did NOT NEED TO MELT, only weaken, and this quote from e-Skeptic shows the REAL truth: “In controlled demolitions, detonating devices weaken or disrupt all major support points in a building at the same time. Therefore, once the collapse begins, all parts of the building are simultaneously in motion, free-falling to the ground. However, this is definitely not what happens during the collapse of WTC Buildings 1 and 2. Carefully review footage of the collapses, and you will find that the parts of the buildings above the plane impact points begin falling first, while the lower parts of the buildings are initially stationary.3 The parts of the towers below the impact point do not begin to fall until the higher floors have collapsed onto them. This is not what we would expect if the towers collapsed from a controlled demolition, but it is exactly what we would expect if the building collapse resulted from damage sustained by the impact of the planes and subsequent fire damage. A conspiracy theorist may counter that the buildings were rigged to begin falling from the top down, but what are the chances that those planning such a complicated demolition would be able to predict the exact location the planes would impact the towers, and prepare the towers to begin falling precisely there?”

The second thing the 911 “Truth” Movement forgets- or more than likely ignores- is that the jet fuel was NOT the only thing burning there- it was simply the ignition source. There was plenty of other stuff to burn in the Twin Towers that day, such as furniture, carpet, etc. Two 100+ story office buildings have a ton of stuff that can burn in them The heat from the fire had to be transferred to the steel of course, and the equation for heat transfer is heat = (mass of object( specific heat of the object) (change in temperature). Specific heat is the amount of heat required to raise 1 gram of any substance 1º Celsius, as any physics or chemistry book will tell you. The jet fuel obviously had mass. The thing is all the other burning materials also had mass, not to mention their own specific heats, so you’d need to add the mass and specific heats of ALL the combustible material in the WTC together. Since you have just increased two variables on the right side of the equation, the left side has to increase as well. Let’s not forget that fire is hot, so the heat from the fire would naturally flow to the cooler steel as heat flows from high temperatures to low temperatures, or “downhill.”

Oh, and I suggest “truthers” look up a Sherman’s necktie here: “…twisting the bars when hot. Officers should be instructed that bars simply bent may be used again, but if when red hot they are twisted out of line they cannot be used again. Pile the ties into shape for a bonfire, put the rails across and when red hot in the middle, let a man at each end twist the bar so that its surface becomes spiral. (Hat-tip to 911realtruth for bringing this to my attention.)

“Truthers” may also want to check out this YouTube video showing a reenactment of Sherman’s neckties. You will note that the fire is pretty much your average campfire, yet it was sufficient to weaken steel- note that’s WEAKEN, NOT MELT- to the point where it could be bent. Now, if a mere campfire can allow people to do that, imagine what a combination of jet fuel and the other combustible materials in the WTC would do to the steel after the aircraft impact dislodged the fireproofing.
